about

Exploring new subject matter, and an alter ego, Dirty Murph & the Kerbside Sorters tackle the topic of the UK's unlawfully bad air quality through a parody of a cover version. "Valerie" was written by the Zutons, and brought to prominence by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson - and now it's adapted to celebrate the achievements of Client Earth in holding the UK Government to account to produce something like an adequate air quality strategy.

lyrics

Well sometimes I go out by myself
Just to breathe the air
And I stop to blow my nose, take a look
How’d all that black stuff get up there?

Well, since I moved to town,
I can’t seem to catch my breath
And I fear the diesel fumes
Are choking me to death
Won't you legislate now
Extend my life expectancy?
Why won't you improve air quality?

Did you have to go to court,
Fight the injunctions people sought, with your fancy lawyers?
Well I’m glad you didn’t win,
Lost cases time and again, are you keepin’ score yeah?
‘Cos the judges all agree,
On the inadequacy of your proposals
And you’ll have to pay the fine
The EU’s adding all the time, cos this problem’s global

Well, since I moved to town,
I can’t seem to catch my breath
And I fear the NOx and SOx
Are choking me to death
Won't you legislate now
Extend my life expectancy?
Why won't you improve air quality?
